Wings galore, live music and a day of fun soaking in the rays at Hugh MacRae Park. Yes, it's time for the 10th Annual Budweiser Wing Fling.
The 2006 Wing Fling, co-hosted by Budweiser and Pi Sigma Epsilon, (a business co-ed fraternity for marketing and sales management) is a community-based event held on March 25. From noon to 4 p.m. the park will be packed with vendors and booths, wing tasting competitions from local restaurants and live bands, including 4th and Dock and Organix. Participating restaurants and businesses include Smokey Bones, Elijah's, The Pilot House, Fibber Magee's, Texas Roadhouse, Lowe's Foods, Hollywood East Cinema Grill, Wild Wing Café, Sticky Fingers, Wahoo Willies, Wilmington Ale House, Reel Café, Wilson's and many others.
Clint Spell, the 2006 Wing Fling Sponsorship Chair, said Wing Fling has become a great annual event which students look forward to all through the year.
"It has gained much attention because of its laid back, social, entertaining, and belly-filling good times," he said.
Proceeds from Wing Fling will benefit the Child Advocacy Commission of Wilmington, and scholarships for the UNCW Cameron School of Business. The Child Advocacy Commission is a non-profit chapter of the National Children's Alliance that supports local communities by helping neglected and abused children and their families.
Sydney Wells, a UNCW junior and pledging member of Pi Sigma Epsilon, said the event promises to be fun for everyone.
"Wing Fling is a great way to meet new people, sample awesome wings and just hang out with friends while listening to great music," Wells said.
The event is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased for $5 in advance from members of Pi Sigma Epsilon and various local businesses, or $7 at the gate. Persons over 21 can bring their own beer, excluding glass containers.
Hugh MacRae Park is located on the corner of Oleander and College Roads. For more information, contact the president of Pi Sigma Epsilon Jamie Johnson at jlj2523@uncw.edu, or the Pi Sigma Epsilon Web site at www.pse.org.
