Joseph Brunjes, a member of the String Faculty in UNCW's Department of Music, is also a Wilmington native. He is the founder and conductor of The Oleander Chamber Orchestra, which performs regularly-most recently performing here at UNCW.

Brunjes conducted The Oleander Chamber Orchestra in a charismatic performance in the new Cultural Arts Building's Recital Hall Sunday, Sept. 9. The audience seemed captivated early on by Brunjes' lively conducting.

Locally, Brunjes has impacted the area significantly as a part-time string faculty member for the music department of UNCW since 2004.

Brunjes is also a member of the Long Bay Symphony, named such because they perform along the 60-mile coastal area of North and South Carolina. Finally, Brunjes is a violinist with the Atlantean Trio, a group that performs often on campus and has also featured UNCW music faculty members Richard Thomas and Barry David Salwen.

Brunjes graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts with two Master of Music degrees, one in Violin Performance and the other in conducting. He has a graduate professional diploma in conducting from Connecticut's prestigious Hartt School.
