The sorority women of UNCW and the Wilmington community worked once again as a united group to raise money for charity. Last Thursday, the Greek Panhellenic council hosted its first annual Vendor Fair.

This program was created as a philanthropic event to raise money for Camp Sunshine, a camp for children with terminal illnesses, especially cancer. A large collection of local stores and boutiques in Wilmington brought their products to the UNCW campus to promote their business and help support Camp Sunshine.

Some of the vendors present at the event included Redix, Hallelu, Edge of Urge and Trendy's.

"The local stores were so excited to come to our campus and promote their business while helping a great cause," Panhellenic Vice President of Scholarship and leader of the event Jeannette Tavares said.

Tavares aimed to contact local stores that would cater mostly to college-age students. There were also many stores present with products catering to a Greek cliental. There were at least three monogramming vendors present with many sorority monogrammed items available.

Tavares said the main people who helped make the vendor fair a reality were "Beth Shortle from Chi Omega and of course each of our delegates from our chapters."

The event took place in Warwick ballroom 3 and had a table outside with coin jars marked for each Panhellenic sorority. These jars had been passed around chapter meetings for the weeks leading up to the event in an attempt to raise even more money for Camp Sunshine.

Also, people such as Tavares and Shortle worked to promote the event by visiting chapter meetings and explaining the cause.

"A lot of work went into publicizing this event, but I think it was an overall success and we managed to raise a lot of money for Camp Sunshine," Panhellenic Public Relations chair Stephanie Celenza said.

During the entire event, the room stayed filled with people and the flow of costumers stayed consistent. By the end of the day, the Vendor Fair had raised around $1, 200 for Camp Sunshine.

The success of the event can be attributed to the members of the Panhellenic council, the participation of the vendors and the involvement of college students. Tavares said, "The event was a success on a whole, and we hope this can become an annual event and continue to raise money for charity in years to come."
