Anna Moorefield, a UNCW junior, has never been to or heard of ECOH but would "definitely try it out if a good band were playing there." She said there are many advantages for Moore only allowing original bands to play at ECOH.
"It gives new bands and artists a chance to get bigger and more well known in the community and hopefully could make the live music scene in Wilmington a little more prominent," Moorefield explained.
Moorefield and Evans also explained that while original music may be the only type of music allowed to play at the ECOH, there are some disadvantages to that. They both agreed that a place like ECOH would not make as much money as some of the other venues in downtown Wilmington that allow all types of music to play such as The Soapbox.
However, Vicki Moore does all she can for the music and not for the money. Moore said that cover bands "make business thrive but not the reputation of the business."
She believes that original music creates a vibe in a venue which cover bands just cannot match. "I really have a greater appreciation for creativity. [It] inspires people to go outside of their box and perform and not just go the easier way," Moore said.
With the flow of original music coming in and out of the ECOH, Moore is always looking for new material or new talent. A band is booked if they display professionalism and are hard working people serious about their music. Moore even travels to New York and France with friends to look for new talent, material and ideas.
A recent band who performed there by the name of Buffalo, said about Vicki Moore and her bar in a blog on their Myspace page: "To anybody unfamiliar with this venue, it is a beautiful pocket of counterculture in which everybody can feel at home." They also went on thank Vicki and her staff for their generosity.
The East Coast Opera House is located at 119 Grace Street, Wilmington, N.C.
People appreciate Vicki Moore and her passion towards music. Her Myspace page sums up her entire view, "It's all about the music and it's about being a family that rallies around the support of that music."

This is just free advertising for a business most uncw students can't even enter.
