Provost Brian Chapman resigns from UNCW

Brian Chapman announced today, Monday, April 6, that he is resigning from his position as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington to pursue other interests.

During this academic year, Chapman has moved the university forward in the areas of basic studies, assessment and SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) accreditation fifth year review.

Prior to his position as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UNCW, Chapman served for several years as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at West Texas A&M University.

He also served for five years as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Sam Houston State University. In both of those positions, he was instrumental in developing new and innovative academic programs, implementing effective strategies for increasing student retention, and improving student learning outcomes.

Chapman's academic background is in zoology. Prior to becoming a university administrator, he served as a professor of zoology and graduate coordinator in the School of Forest Resources at the University of Georgia, and also served in faculty positions at the University of Oklahoma and Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. He has published numerous academic papers and conference presentations related to his research on various species of birds.
