Popular roots rock band O.A.R. (Of a Revolution) is set to rock the boat at the Battleship Amphitheater Saturday, Oct. 17.
The band, which will kick off its fall tour Oct. 14, will be making its third stop in Wilmington.
Fans can expect to hear old favorites like "Love and Memories" and "That Was a Crazy Game of Poker," as well as songs from their sixth studio album, All Sides, which was released in June 2008.
"We are looking forward to a good time. We are going to keep it fun and leave you with a positive feeling when we get off stage," said Jerry DePizzo, O.A.R.'s saxophonist.
O.A.R.'s unique sound combines elements of rock and reggae. Their distinctive sound, along with their celebrated stage presence, has gained O.A.R. a fan base that can be traced back to followings they built while the band members were still in college at Ohio State University.
Much of their success has been attributed to the energy they bring to their performances, which has prompted the band to release several live albums. Their newest, a four-disc album recorded from live performances over two nights earlier this year in Chicago, is set for release sometime around November or December.
"It is really a great representation of where we are right now as a band. It is almost like greatest hits. With 37 songs, we span a pretty good amount of our catalog," said DePizzo.
The members of the band say they get most of their inspiration for songs while being at home with family and from simple everyday interactions. Much like college life, being on the road makes the members of O.A.R. appreciate the times when they are home and provides them with fuel for their music.
"Everyday- life-experiences is where our inspiration comes from. It is important for us to take some time off the road to experience everyday life so people can relate to what we are talking about in our music," said DePizzo.
In case local fans want to catch O.A.R at additional dates set in N.C., each night of the tour will be different. According to the band, they switch up their set list every night so that each performance will be a completely different experience for them, as well as for the fans.
Tickets are on sale now for the Oct. 17 show in Wilmington, which will also include performances by Elmwood, Simplified and Galactic.
