Comedian Loni Love took the stage Thursday night in the Burney Center. The event has hosted by the Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE).
Variety and Comedy Central named Love among their Top 10 Comics to Watch. Not only is she a comedian, but a TV host and actress as well and Campus Activity magazine honored her as its Hot Comic for 2009.
"The only disappointment was that the show sold out so early and we had to turn quite a few people away, said junior Shannon Rodenheiser, Vice President of ACE. "Those who did get into the show had a fantastic time. The entire room was laughing hysterically, and I've even had a few comments from people who were in the event next door that they could hear us through the wall."
In 2007 Love starred in a Comedy Central half-hour special and has also been in the shows "Premium Blend," "Weekends at the DL" and "Chocolate News." Among many television appearances Love has been on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn," "The Best Damn Sports Show Period," VH1's "I Love the 70's/80's/90's," "The Great Debate" and "Comics Unleashed."
Love's career has also benefited from her role on the Nickelodeon show "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide." In addition to her own show she has guest starred on many other shows such as UPN's "Girlfriends" and the CBS sitcom "Worst Week." Love also hosted "E! Wildest TV Show Moments."
"We utilize student poling, find out about talent from our conferences at NACA, watch for YouTube and itunes popular hits, and use many other ways to find out what the students want," said senior Holly Souther, President of ACE. "Student views are a very important part of our choices, but we also have to factor in what artists and talent are in our price range and are available on preferred dates."
Last year Love became a CNN Correspondent for the show "D.L. Hughley Breaks the News" while covering the Inauguration of President Barak Obama.
Currently Love is a panelist on E!s show "Chelsea Lately" and TruTV's "The Smoking Gun Presents: The World's Dumbest". This year Love will premiere her first one hour special for Comedy Central titled "America's Sister."
While Love is a woman of many talents it is quite clear her main goal is to simply make people laugh.
