Best Wilmington eateries only locals know about

The Little Dipper is a local favorite, especially with women.

From large chain restaurants to smaller local eateries and cafes, Wilmington is home to several places to eat featuring a variety of cuisines from all around the world. Students new to the area may want to try some of these local favorites.

Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn $
Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn is well known for their burritos, as well as the informal and energetic atmosphere. The menu features 17 different specialty burritos as well as other options such as tacos, nachos, salads and a "build-your-own" meal choice.

"I love Flaming Amy's. There are so many burrito choices and the prices are great," said junior Kyle Huffer.

The restaurant is open every day from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and is located at 4002 Oleander Drive.

Flaming Amy's Bowl $
The owners of the Burrito Barn also opened up a Mongolian restaurant, naming it Flaming Amy's Bowl. The Bowl puts an American twist on Mongolian with a variety of options and sauces. Visitors fill a bowl with their choice of mix-in which is then stir-fried right in front of the customer with a choice of pasta or rice and various sauces. With an all you can eat style restaurant, customers will not leave hungry.

"Flaming Amy's Bowl has a lot of variety and flavors and ingredients to accommodate whatever you are in the mood for," said junior Jordan Schenck.

The Bowl is open every day from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and is located at 4418 Shipyard Blvd.

Sweet and Savory Bake Shop and Café $
Sweet and Savory serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and even houses a bar and bake shop. From eggs and quiches to sandwiches, burgers and beers, this local restaurant has it all. Sweet and Savory is a seat-yourself restaurant with a casual and friendly atmosphere.

"Sweet and Savory is delicious and is reasonably priced," said junior Erika Walsh. "It has a homey atmosphere and the best kettle-cooked chips."

Sweet and Savory is open Mon. through Thurs. 7 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Fri. 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., Sat. 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Sun. 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. It is located at 1611 Pavilion Place off of Eastwood.

Bluewater $$
Bluewater is open for lunch and dinner and is best known for its seafood but includes other alternatives for those who have an appetite for something else. The menu has ample variety and offers traditional favorites as well as unique dishes. It is located on the Intracoastal Waterway and offers a beautiful view.

"Bluewater is a great place to eat with friends and family and also a great place to take out your significant other," said senior Andrew Beeson. "It has a chill atmosphere where you can eat a great meal while overlooking water and boats as they come out of their dock. This is a must visit restaurant."

Bluewater is open Mon. through Thur. 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Fri. though Sun. 11 a.m. until 11p.m. It is located at 4 Marina St. at Wrightsville Beach.



Front Street Brewery $$
According to the website, Front Street Brewery is the only Wilmington restaurant with its own brewery. Aside from the vast variety of beer and drinks, the restaurant has an extensive menu that even the pickiest eater will enjoy.

"Front Street Brewery has so many choices and all the food is so good," said Walsh.

Front Street Brewery is open Mon. through Thurs. 11:30 a.m. until midnight and Fri. Sat. 11:30a.m. until 2 a.m. It is located downtown at 9 North Front St.

Dockside $$
Dockside serves a variety of seafood for lunch and dinner. It is located right on the water so visitors can enjoy a coastal Carolina atmosphere with a beautiful view through floor to ceiling

glass windows.

"Dockside is one of the best inexpensive seafood restaurants in Wilmington," said Huffer. "It also has an awesome view."

Dockside is open 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and can be found at 1308 Airlie Road.



The Little Dipper $$$
The Little Dipper is a busy fondue restaurant with great service and a stylish ambiance that also houses a bar and outdoor seating area. With good specials and food well worth the money, reservations are almost always necessary, especially on the weekly Wednesday "ladies night."

"The Little Dipper is more than just a meal; it is also entertainment because you make and dip your own food and have a good time with your friends," said Schenck. "Ladies night is the best deal and so much fun."

The Little Dipper is open Tues. through Sun from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. It is located downtown at 138 South Front St.



Indochine $$$
Indochine serves authentic Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. It has plenty of menu options and large portions, as well as bar and outdoor seating. This restaurant has a unique atmosphere and is very popular with students and the Wilmington community.

"Indochine has great service and food and it's quaint, Zen atmosphere adds to the experience," said Beeson. "It is a great place to expand one's cultural horizons and enjoy traditional Asian cuisine."

Indochine is open for lunch Tues. through Fri. from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Sat. 12 p.m. until 2p.m. It is open for dinner from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Mon. through Sat. It can be found off of Market St. at 7 Wayne Drive.
